New Zealand Adventure // 2017

Currently I am sat at Gatwick airport, about to board a flight to Canada to visit two of my favourite Canadian gals and I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I saw them. We met while traveling around South East Asia at the end of 2016, I carried on to Laos then headed to around some Thai islands, intending to carry on to Singapore and then Bali. However after two extremely rainy days in Phi Phi, I though F*** it and booked a last minute flight to join Katryna in New Zealand, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. New Zealand is truly an amazing place with the most beautiful landscapes.

To be honest I am a little embarrassed thats it had taken me this long to blog about this part of my 4 month travelling adventure as it was just stunning and we had a right giggle geeking out at all of the Lord of The Rings filming locations, we seriously lost our shit when we arrived at Hobbiton. I was very lucky in that Katryna let me invade her trip of a lifetime and that I got on so well with her friends Brad & Tara who joined us for 2 of the 4 weeks, although they did take the P*ss out of me freaking out about driving a wizard car (also known as a automatic) for the first time. Unfortunately we also killed one hire of our hire cars which we nicknamed Maurice on our last day, the fan belt had fallen off and we had been singing a mixture of Disney and the Used so loud that we didn’t hear and ended up being stranded about 2 hours from the nearest town.

Being in New Zealand was like witnessing nature on steroids, every road we took was so scenic it took us forever to get anywhere. We did so much it’s hard to list my favourite things but here goes.

  • HOBBITON (I was really gutted I had not gone dressed as a Hobbit – next time)
  • Gollums cave – Tawhai Falls
  • Taking photos of the natural hot springs around Rotorua (not so much the smell)
  • Making dreamcatchers in Auckland then visiting the Skyline
  • Cycle Wine tour around Marlborough (If you know me this won’t come as much as a surprise when I tell you this was one of my favourite parts of my whole trip. I do like a drink.)
  • Walked up Baldwin Street, the steepest street in the world backwards.
  • Cindy Sherman retrospective at the City Gallery, Wellington (she’s one of my favourite artists so I was in my element.)
  • Pancake rocks
  • Lone tree of lake Wanaka
  • Taking the Road to Paradise – scenic drive Queenstown
  • Mount cook highest mountains and the longest glaciers. It is alpine in the purest sense – with sky scraping peaks, glaciers and permanent snow fields.
