As an alternative wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing countless unique love stories, but Dan and Ellen’s celebration at The Globe in Hay-on-Wye was something truly special. Nestled in the heart of this charming town that holds a special place in my own heart, the wedding was a perfect blend of rock ‘n’ roll, tequila, tacos, and pure joy.
Hay-on-Wye, with its quirky shops and chilled vibes, provided the perfect backdrop for a non-traditional wedding. Personally, this place holds sentimental value for me, as it was where my fiance and I had our first little break away. So, being back in Hay to document Dan and Ellen’s love story was an absolute delight.
Rebeca at R and R Weddings and Events deserves a standing ovation for the rock ‘n’ roll styling that transformed The Globe. From the vibrant tables named after the couple’s favorite bands to disco balls and an awesome neon “Til Death” sign, every detail screamed personality. Ellen’s reaction to the wedding breakfast set up was priceless, capturing the essence of their unique style.
The ceremony, conducted by the bride’s close friend, was a beautiful blend of sentiment and humor. An excerpt from “Wild Awake” by Hilary T. Smith added a touch of literary charm. As an alternative wedding photographer, I reveled in capturing the genuine emotions as Dan and Ellen exchanged vows and shared tender moments.
Throwing tradition to the wind, Dan and Ellen opted for a menu that reflected their personalities. Tacos replaced canapés, and margaritas flowed freely as welcome drinks. The choice to skip the conventional and embrace the unconventional set the tone for a day filled with laughter, love, and a touch of wildness.
Laura Mary Bakes delivered a show-stopping, alternative cake that perfectly matched the couple’s eclectic taste. The tables were named after favorite bands, creating a colorful and cool atmosphere. With Los Devitos on stage, the evening turned into an unforgettable party fueled by tequila and good vibes. The dance floor was nothing short of epic, with both Dan and Ellen’s friends and family proving they knew how to have a good time.
Taking couple photos in front of The Globe’s iconic red door was a highlight, and a leisurely walk up and down the street captured the essence of Hay-on-Wye’s charm. Ellen’s sacred heart-embroidered veil paired beautifully with her classic dress from Heart Aflutter, and the flawless makeup and hair from Rebel Rock Wedding added a touch of glam to the day.
Dan and Ellen’s wedding at The Globe was a non-traditional masterpiece that showcased their love for each other and their unique style. If you’re planning a cool rock ‘n’ roll wedding and want relaxed, chilled photos that capture the true spirit of the day, get in touch. Let’s create magic together!
